What is the minimum requirement for participating in the Hackathon?

You must be over 18 years of age and a student in any of the underlisted tertiary institution

Is there a deadline for applications?

Registration closes on the 18th of February

When is the kickoff date?

February 21st to 22nd, 2026

How long will the hackathon be?

It will start with registration from 8:00 am on the 21st of February and finish at 4:00 pm on 22nd February. The Hackathon will not be less that 30 hours (about 2 days)

Is there a minimum or maximum size for the teams?

We are looking for teams with 2 to 5 members.

Do I have to register to participate?

To participate in the hackathon, registration is a must. You have two options: either create a team or join an existing one. If you have a friend who has already registered and formed a team, simply request the team’s name from them and input it during your registration process. However, if you’re the first member of your team to register, you’ll need to come up with a team name of your own.

Do I need coding experience?

The Cavista Hackathon welcomes participants from all majors and experience levels, making it the ideal platform to embark on your first project. Beyond coding, teams will flourish with the infusion of creativity and innovative ideas brought by students. 

Why should I form a team?

We embrace the philosophy of ‘each one, teach one.’ Our event offers a unique opportunity for individuals in the creative and cultural industries to unite, share knowledge, and collaborate on solutions to critical challenges, fostering a culture of continuous learning and mutual support 

What are the meal options offered?

We’ll have a variety of delicious meals, snacks, and drinks available throughout the entire event to keep you energized

Would there be a pre-screening of applicants?

Yes, the application does not guarantee a spot to participate in the event. 

What if I have never participated in a hackathon?

It doesn’t matter. You now have a chance to be part of something transformative from the start 

What digital platforms will be used to facilitate the virtual hackathon?

To participate in the hackathon, registration is a must. You have two options: either create a team or join an existing one. Who will be the judges for the hackathon?

The judging panel will comprise representatives from Cavista Technologies, and an external judge to be decided by the committee.

Can I work on my project before the hackathon?

No. All projects must begin at the Cavista Technologies Hackathon, but you are welcome to consider project ideas prior to the day of the event. Projects can range from solving personal, social, or business challenges through new, altered, and innovative technologies.

Does it cost money to participate?

No, participation in the Cavista Technologies Hackathon is free of charge! The hacker experience includes food, drinks, snacks, and event swag, which will be handed out to attendees during the event.

Will hardware be made available?

The Cavista Technologies Hackathon will NOT supply hardware, but we encourage participants to use online hardware simulators. Please remember to bring your own laptop to the event. 

How will the winners of the hackathon be decided?

Judges will be using a scorecard to evaluate the different projects. Key criteria to be assessed are Impact, Desirability, Feasibility, Viability, Team diversity/ Collaboration, Presentation, and Adherence to theme.

Who is keeping the intellectual property of my solution?

The team that develops the project is the owner of the intellectual property and project. 

Can I use the project in my career portfolio?

Yes, provided you use the correct attribution.

What is the problem we will be hacking to solve?

Details of the business problem will be announced on the day of the event.
